Words from our winners

The Great British Pub Awards is more than just an event. Our core objective each year is to put bums on seats and pride in pub teams. Now celebrating our 25th anniversary, hundreds of amazing pubs across the country have taken home trophies from past events, and we're over the moon to hear that for many of them, winning one of these awards has helped elevate their pub business to the next level.

Don't just take our word for it - find out below what our previous winners had to say about how the Great British Pub Awards changed their business...

"The overall event was amazing. The Rose and Crown also won an award which meant so much to us as a community, local produce suppliers and most of all the staff, who work amazingly hard which is why we won an award. Following on from this the business will only benefit through winning the award."

Winner: Marston's Pub of the Year 2023

Andrew Goodall Owner Rose & Crown

"I've been here for almost 11 years and put so much hard work and money into the business so it's a great feeling for these efforts to pay off. To be up against some of the big companies in the industry and win shows how far we've come as an outlet. I couldn't have been prouder of myself and the team."

Winner: Best Pub to Watch Sport 2023

Justine Bedford The Royal Dyche

"It was an amazing day. Our team absolutely loved it. We're already thinking of new ideas to get us into the next one!"

"Winning the GBPA category for Keeping the Community Entertained has been a huge boost for The Swan. Whilst the prize money has allowed us to make some amazing progress with the refurbishment of our kitchen, most importantly, the award has helped us raise our profile in the community and made many more local people aware of what is going on at the pub, our aims and vision for its future."

Winner: John Smith's Great British Pub of the Year 2017

Glenn Duckett Owner The Eagle & Child Ramsbottom

"It meant everything to the team, as the dancing on stage showed on the night itself! We've had a team of people working on what we do for several years, so to see everyone enjoying the moment and being recognised for their party of that meant lots to the entire team. The plaque is proudly displayed on the bar and brings plenty of conversation."

Winner: Best Pub for Entertainment 2023

Pete Marshall Licensee The Kings Arms

"We won the award in September, just as the garden was starting to wind down after the summer but we have seen a lot of function and wedding bookings come in for this summer - all of which are keen to have a garden party vibe. We are already pretty much fully booked for weddings this year and are now taking bookings for 2025."

Winner: Best Pub Garden 2023

Sarah and Simon Colquhoun The Gaggle of Geese

"We were incredibly proud to be recognised by such a prestigious award after the most challenging of periods in our industries history. Winning gave our team a much needed morale boost, our customers drew confidence in knowing that the venue had bounced back to be at the top of its game and agencies such as Arts Council England, The Mayor of London and our local Council were reminded of the vital contribution our venue makes to our diverse community."

It was great to be asked the questions by the judges as it allowed us to showcase the work we do and it gives hope and morale during the most challenging time ever for pubs. They shine a light on our industry and the amazing, talented people who run pubs, even in these challenging times."
